What is a Request for Evidence or RFE?

A Request for Evidence (RFE) is an inquiry from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) (also called a 221G Request from the U.S. Embassy or Consulate) as part of the application review process. When an RFE is issued, it means the immigration officer reviewing an application needs additional documentation or information to make a decision on the case.
